New homes & nursery for Hackney

The social and community benefits of developing brownfield sites in urban areas is perfectly summarised in our latest Hackney project.

28 Powell Road is a warehouse building located in the heart of residential Clapton which had historically had been used as a clothing factory, and more recently as the much-used “Kidzmania” day nursery.

We first identified the site on one of our regular walks around the Borough’s streets, and immediately noticed the clear development potential it offered. We approached the owner, who was ready to sell after holding the property for around 30 years, and a coordinated an unconditional acquisition on behalf of one of our retained clients.

A scheme was designed and planning permission approved in 2016 for a new build development of 21 flats with a replacement nursery facility, which will ensure the long-term future of Kidzmania on site.

We have subsequently arranged a sale of the site to Family Mosaic Housing Association for £4,500,000, who will be starting on site later in 2017 to develop much needed affordable housing in Hackney.
